Tank Rehabilitation Projects

Easton Suburban Water Authority will have work performed on two of its water storage tanks in the 2013.

The Plainfield Standpipe, located in Plainfield Township, was taken out of service in the end of October of 2012, when some minor steel work was performed and the interior of the tank was painted.  Weather conditions did not permit the exterior of the tank to be painted in 2012, so this work is scheduled to be performed in the Spring of 2013 and will require the tank to be taken out of service for approximately 6 weeks.  The Farmersville Tank, located in Bethlehem Township, will be taken out of service in 2013 so that some minor steel work can be performed along with the painting of the interior and exterior of the tank.  This work is anticipated to take approximately three months to complete and there are no anticipated water service interruptions or impacts expected from the tank rehabilitation work.

Wilden Acres Water Main Improvements
Easton Suburban Water Authority will be working over the next year to install an additional 12” distribution/transmission water main in the southern portion of Bethlehem and Palmer Townships near the Authority’s Wilden Acres Tank. In 2012, the Authority installed a new 12” water main on Whitney Avenue between Freemansburg Avenue and Butternut Lane.  In 2013, the Authority will install the new 12” water main on Butternut Lane and Fairview Avenue in Palmer Township as well as on Sheridan Drive between William Penn Highway and Chetwin Terrace. As part of the project, the Authority will also be installing a new 12” water main along the Bike Path between Hickory Lane in Palmer Township and Sheridan Drive in Bethlehem Township.  The water main installation in 2013 will begin at the intersection of Butternut Lane and Whitney Avenue and continue north on Butternut Lane to the intersection with Fairview Avenue, where it will turn west on Fairview Avenue and extend to the intersection with Hickory Lane.  The water main will then follow the Bike Path from the intersection with Hickory Lane, west to the intersection with Sheridan Drive.  The water main installation on Sheridan Drive will begin at the intersection with William Penn Highway and extend south to the intersection with Chetwin Terrace.   There will be four phases to the project, with the first being the installation and testing of the new water main. Once the water main is tested, the service laterals will be transferred from the old water main to the new water main. Once this has been completed, the new water main will be connected to the existing water mains along the new water main route. Once all of this work has been completed, the trenches will be allowed adequate settlement time before the final pavement restoration is completed. The Authority anticipates that the first three phases of the work will be completed in the Spring of 2013, with the final pavement restoration (phase four) being completed in the Summer of 2013.

UPDATE: The water main installation is scheduled to begin on March 11, 2013 at the intersection of Butternut Lane and Whitney Avenue and proceed as described above.
